A summer training with Gordon

Way back in 1994/5, Thames Water decided to develop a Project Accounting System and myself and Gordon (amongst others) were seconded to the team. As the project went live, Gordon and I were paired as trainers and spent most of the summer delivering user training together. I can honestly say it was one of the most fun times of my entire career as we formed an unlikely double-act, performring twice a day in room 028/030 on the ground floor of Gainsborough House. Whilst Gordon was generally of a quiet disposition, he had an unfailing ability, having said nothing for 20 minutes, to suddenly pop-out with the sharpest remark which would leave everyone speachless and laughing. By the end of our summer delivering training we had to attend a training course ourselves. Due to a shortage of training PCs we had to share one between us and soon divided the keyboard between us, giving howls of derision should one touch one of the others' allotted keys. I should apologise to the poor trainer who had to marshall us that day as we were so not in the mood to "be trained" and behaved like dreadful teenagers. Yet it remains in my memory as one of the most fun days I ever had at work! Rest in peace Gordon, I will miss you along with the many others whose lives you touched. It was a privilege to share a part of the journey with you. Nick
