In the early 1980,s a group of us founded Debenhams F.C and played in the Reading Sunday League , Gordon joined through his friendship with Dave Vickery !One Sunday we had a Cup fixture near Maidenhead and someone sorted a Mini bus for the travelling . Gordon was last to be picked up in Woodley and as we arrived at the family house I realized I had left my football boots at home! " Gordon have you any spare Boots " We were similar in size and the bus was not going back to my house for me to get mine, Gordon disapeared into the house and came back with a pair of his sister Dawn,s hockey boots which fitted fine. We won the game although sadly the hockey boots did not improve my normal performance. Dawn never new about the borrowing of the Boots until we spoke after the Funeral at least 30 years since , it was a reminder of carefree , happy days when we were all younger ! From John Brown
