The Four Musketeers

Following on from "Hockey Boots " the 1980,s were a time of a very special friendship based on Debenhams Sunday Football team a group of us Played ,trained and socialised together ."The Four Musketeers were Gordon , his lifelong friend Dave , Nigel Coxhead and myself . Sunday night was our regular night out and we would travel all round the area to Pubs Gordon and Dave both knew ( Nigel and myself not being Local did not know ) it was time to talk about the days game and relive stories , we were a very social side and fun was the main objective although we took our football seriously and their were many stories and jokes to remember !
WE all got to know the Ralphs family and Sherry of course! turning up to pick up Gordon to go to the pub or meeting in the Bull and Chequers , Gordons Dad in the corner of the old pub before redevelopment took place.
Very alcoholic Sunday lunch,s at Rose and Jock Flemings , very good friends of the four of us became a regular feature and then to the Pub with a larger group of friends and partners from the football team , some of us although not Gordon played cricket together and Gordon , David and myself played in the Reading Football Five a Side League on Wednesday nights as well for many seasons .
This all adds up to a very special time as a group of friends which was reflected with the warmth and fun we had when ever we met, up to this day !
Gordon was a big part of this , a good footballer but better at Hockey ,a dry understated humour disguised a
high intelligence and a warm heart .
Good times never to be repeated and not able to be bought however rich you may be !
